Toronto Mayor John Tory Raises Property Taxes while Toronto has a surplus of money, the simple reason why – December 29, 2019,
William B.P. Robson wrote what I thought was an excellent piece on the Financial Post, he only avoided one topic which everyone tries to avoid in Western politics and that topic is the size of the public sector. Most humans in the Western World know little to nothing about money, a lot of us in the Wst prefer to know little to nothing about how our economies function and it’s this ignorance which also even Conservative politicians to pull stunts like the stunt current Toronto Mayor John Tory just pulled.
In a world not dominated by Keynesians, prices for goods and service should actually come down, but unions don’t ever want this to happen, unions are structured to force prices up and one of the most destructive unions to a country are public-sector unions. If you’re wondering why Toronto is sitting on a surplus of capital, it’s because of the future liabilities Toronto would incur if John Tory grew the size of government. John Tory isn’t an idiot, he’s a Conservative who thinks and behaves like many of Canadian Conservatives, who are more fiscally responsible with Liberal and NDP created disasters than the Leftist Political Parties of Canada.
This, of course, is what creates a demand for the Liberals and the NDP because when people like William B.P. Robson write articles like the one you can read below, the average financial moron will say to themselves well why don’t we just higher a bunch of Government workers and spend all that money helping the poor? Well, this is why I don’t vote Conservative because the Conservatives refuse to educate the public that the public sector is the main contributor to poverty.
Rent Prices in Toronto are going up
Now, trust me I get why John Tory doesn’t talk about it, he’s surrounded by government workers, he has to meet and talk with entitled government workers every day and if he dare say he is thinking of shrinking the size of government he’s basically telling government employees that they could be out of a job, but hey, eventually, Torontonians are going to vote in an idiot, who is going to spend the surplus of capital on bad investments and problems that don’t exist now, will exist in great abundance when these entitled government workers, demand higher wages and more job protections.
Now, I’m no John Tory fan, but I call it as I see it, 1.4 billion could get gobbled up in a few months if let’s say John Tory decides to use that money to build a few government houses. Government homes require either government workforces or opportunists in the private sector who when given contracts, will intentionally inflate the costs to either build or maintain the infrastructure. Also what will happen with government homes is they’ll be built modern which means highly paid specialists will be needed to do maintenance on it.
Government people are typically horrible at business and tend not to look into the future, John Tory is, however, he’s in a quicksand situation if he speaks out he risks losing all of his relationships, so he’s looking for an easy out, that will eventually lead to a communist/socialists who will make a bunch of promises they can’t keep, eventually becoming the mayor of Toronto. Knowledge is power and although I like the article below, the reality is it completely ignores the cost to run the Public Sector.
Interesting times ahead!
