Is UNIFOR an Ontario Job Killer? GM and Bombardier Layoffs while Toyota is Expanding – July 11, 2019,
I do what I can to stay current with the thought process behind Leftist think tanks, their view on politics appears to be getting progressively worse as it appears from my standpoint that Leftists forget that Canadians so far have basically given into most if not all of their demands. Now, because in prior years the Paul Martin types had a broader understanding of how the Free enterprise system worked, and although corrupt, Paul Martin was wise enough to allow loopholes in our overly taxed nation to facilitate investment into the Canadian economy, it appears that modern-day Liberals haven’t come to the realization that taxation is theft and are therefore making alliances with entities who don’t understand the importance of remaining competitive in a Global economy.
Unfortunately, this is coming to a head, and I want to make it clear that other nations have gone through what Canada is probably going to experience in the not so distant future which is possible Austerity measures to save the Canadian dollar. Canada and I have to make this clear cannot continue to lose its manufacturing base, our ability to manufacture things is imperative to the strength of our currency, Canadians aren’t saving, a large chunk of our population is in debt and because we have so much land in this country, it’s extremely important that many of our public services remain properly funded. In Alberta, as an example, there are thoughts that wildfires couldn’t have been prevented? If you believe this nonsense YOU”RE WRONG!
Wildfires happen because government resources are shifted elsewhere, now, Alberta’s Oil and gas industry pays more than enough in taxes to prevent most wildfires, but its the Government mishandling of taxpayer dollars that cause, most of these disasters to occur.
California wildfires happen frequently and people, of course, assume that these fires aren’t preventable, no, that’s far from the truth, we’re civilized countries, wildfires are preventable in Canada, they’re preventable in the United States, however, if you’re a Leftist who puts greater emphasis on Social justice, well you will knowingly or unknowingly kill the public funding source that allows you to better combat these problems before they occur.
Social justice whether you like it or not is EXPENSIVE, Gender neutral bathrooms, they’re a thing now! Humans that need to be paid have to install and maintain these bathrooms, the Liberals and NDP are big on rehabilitating ISIS terrorists in Canada, monitoring and rehabilitating these people are very EXPENSIVE! Humans that get paid money have to do these jobs! So as public funds are sent in these directions, unimportant things like wildfires, well they get cuts.
The private sector creates wealth, our ability to make things that the world wants, allows us to maintain our standard of living, Canada unfortunately, however, had a Prime Minister named Pierre Elliot Trudeau who pretty much bankrupted Canada, since this legendary fixture in Canadian politics last served, every single Prime minister has been trying to find a way to make the socialist system he created work. The most successful Government at doing this was, unfortunately, Jean Chretien and Paul Martins Liberals, after listening to both men speak, it’s clear to me that the brains of that operation was Paul Martin, now, Paul Martin as corrupt as he was, was still a smart Liberal guy, which unfortunately isn’t common amongst modern day Liberals in Canada and this is what brings me to Justin Trudeau, using Jerry Dias as an advisor to trade negotiations.
Now, I get it, sometimes as a Prime minister you need a photo opportunity, to make it seem like you’re for the little guy, but Jerry Dias isn’t a business person, he’s a union president, a very unsuccessful Union President, a good union president experiences growth a bad union president experiences job loss. Now, is it a coincidence that both Bombardier and GM are shrinking in size in Ontario, while Toyota is growing?

I get it most Conservatives and Right wingers want to blame Trudeau, but, how about blaming UNIFOR? Having a Union doesn’t mean simply demanding higher wages and more benefits, being a Union President requires understanding the future outlook of the company who hired the employees, who hired you to represent them. Jerry Dias for me comes across as very ignorant, I don’t think he understands that Private businesses have investors. Private Sector unions and Public Sector unions shouldn’t assume that they’re equal.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is in a much better position to negotiate than UNIFOR. Why? Because CUPW is a public sector union, I joke about this all the time, Canada Post has no competition, not only is it a Crown Corporation that can bully around any potential private sector rival, but it can also ask for a bailout if it’s unprofitable, it’s a public service exclusive to Canadians, that has no competition to worry about. Bombardier and GM on the other hand, these companies do have competition and they do have to worry about their competitors taking Global market share from them. So as a Union President, you’re supposed to be aware of this and have honest conversations to your workers.
If you’ve ever listened to Jerry Dias, he and Trudeau both prefer the blame someone else game! They never take personal responsibility for their miscalculations and often find a scapegoat. Now, I bring this up why? I bring this up because who assisted Trudeau with the new NAFTA(USMCA)? The Answer:That would be Jerry Dias

Now, so you’re aware the Liberals are Calling the USMCA the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). If you get a chance listen to Jerry Dias after CUSMA was signed. Now, part of the reason GM and Bombardier are leaving Ontario revolves around the new NAFTA. I’ve said this a hundred times over and I’ll say it again, Canada firstly didn’t have to sign NAFTA and secondly got the short end of the stick, because although Mexico manipulates its currency CANADA MANIPULATES its CURRENCY TOO!
If you read the details of the New NAFTA, written into it, is America’s ability to be flexible with tariffs, meaning if Canada taxes American product they can do it back to us. If Canada manipulates it’s currency America can defend the interests of its workers. On almost every global metric, currently, Canada has a better standard of living than America does, why isn’t this reflective in our currencies value? It’s because in order for Canada to work our Public Services have to be properly financed and if the Canadian dollar rises in value, Canada becomes a horrible destination for businesses.
Government workers paychecks keep up with the price of inflation, the main reason I began this article writing about Alberta is that Alberta as far as the Private Sector goes in a shining light for all of Canada. Public Services get financed by the private sector, income taxes derived from bartering with other countries is the oil that fuels the Canadian economic engine. Ontario historically has been the destination for manufacturing, well the provincial Liberals of Ontario have been eating away at our private sector, while at the same time wasting money on failed energy projects. That bill is coming due and the private sector is seeing the writing on the wall, there’s no getting around it and the culture of Canada from my perspective doesn’t appear to know the severity of the economic disaster headed our way.
UNIFOR, in my opinion, has been a disaster for Ontario workers, they don’t allow flexibility and Jerry Dias doesn’t have the temerity to tell the people he represents the truth. I’m a former blue collar worker, I worked in sheet metal, our union president was very frank with us. While I was working in sheet metal, China was the main threat to our job security, and our UNION President let us know about it. Personally, I thought the union I was part of was useless, but I was outvoted and hey I needed the job at the time.
I say this because at the very least the union president we hired was upfront and honest. Jerry Dias based on the speeches I’ve heard him make doesn’t appear to be a smart man. Jerry Dias thought USMCA/CUSMA is a good thing for Canada? Look at the results, do you really think Bombardier and GM weren’t paying close attention to USMCA/CUSMA? Public corporations have a fiduciary duty to look out for the best interests of their shareholders. Those of you who want to retire someday, well, capitalist companies like GM and Bombardier have to make sure you can do that! Health Care Professionals who are Humans, as far as I know, don’t want to bath and clothe the old and the sick for FREE! Anyone want to volunteer under the Government commune to care for the old and sick without any compensation? Anyone…?
In closing, If Toyota Left Ontario, one could put the blame squarely on Trudeau, however, Toyota is growing its presence in Ontario, which begs the question, is UNIFOR the problem? Unions don’t give employers the ability to be flexible. So Toyota who’s been able to avoid UNIFOR is allowed flexibility, it’s allowed to make cuts where cuts need to be made, it’s allowed to train and retrain without asking for Jerry Dias’s permission, it’s able to show it’s shareholders the upside to building its products in Ontario Canada, while GM and Bombardier can’t. Shareholders aren’t stupid, the watch and listen to everything and for me, Dias and Trudeau are economic liabilities to Canada.
Jerry Dias, The Liberals, and the NDP if you’re going to vote for these Leftists, these Union Presidents, please Canada, find the smart ones! Because if you’re against Austerity measures, I’m here to tell you if Canada continues on its current path some of the public services, the welfares many of you Leftists hold dear might be at risk.
Interesting times ahead
