Why The Libertarian Party of Canada shouldn’t Merge with the People’s Party of Canada – September 21, 2018
I’m not going to sugar coat this blog post at all, I’m going to tell it like it is from my perspective. I dated this blog post for a reason, my blog has been online since around 2009, rarely ever have I had any downtown and all my internet bills related to this blog are up to date.
The Libertarian Party of Canada should Not Merge with the People’s Party of Canada because Maxime Bernier a seasoned politician named his political party the People’s Party of Canada for a reason. He gave his party that name to allow himself flexibility when unforeseen situations arise. On the right side of the political aisle, we all know unforeseen events occur and wind up on politicians desks that require swift action that may not be to the liking of Libertarians that believe in Freedom, Liberty, and equality under the law. There are certain situations where subjectivity or decision making plays a key role in how a politician goes about enacting particular policies.
If you’ve ever listened to Libertarian Ron Paul, you’d understand why joining the American Libertarian Party was never an option for him. Being a Libertarian is a way of life it’s not really something you form a Political party under. Because there is subjectivity to being a Libertarian, there are instances where democracy might trump reason and evidence. There are instances where as a Libertarian politician you may have to yield to the demands of the socialists. where this has always been complicated for Conservatives of all types is when is the time to yield? when is the time to compromise? When is the time put limits on the Free market? This is why there are often splits within conservative groups, this is why there are so many versions of Christianity, Islam, Judaism etc.
Conservativism is open to interpretation at certain times and the bickering is why a lot of people end up joining Left-leaning political parties who will tout that a bigger Government is an answer to all the bickering. The Libertarian Party of Canada doesn’t allow much flexibility, however, in my view 3 right-leaning Parties is extremely important to the curiosity of morality for how our Government is managed. If The Libertarian Party of Canada merges with the People’s Party of Canada there will only be 2 right-leaning parties to the 4 Left-leaning parties. The Greens, the NDP, The Liberals, and Quebecois are very real threats to economic stability in Canada.
The People’s Party of Canada welcomes Socialists
Maxime Bernier has been on record saying that he’s welcome to the idea of taking socialist voters as well as voters who are fed up with the NDP. Again allow me to point out that Maxime Bernier is a seasoned politician, he’s not the type of person that will throw away votes, if he can find common ground on some issues with more a more Left-leaning view of the world, those swing voters, he will embrace them, along with their beliefs into the party. Now, obviously what makes Maxime Bernier different from the Conservative Party of Canada is that it appears at least on the surface that he’s willing to listen and to debate idea’s and myth’s being propagated by the media.
The problem with this and The Libertarian Party of Canada is that to convert these people is a lengthy process. I have a lot of family members that Left Leaning politically, they don’t like to hear certain words, even the mere thought of restructuring our universal health care system spooks the heck out of these people, any topic that speaks about limiting immigration reminds them of racism and white supremacy, so bring up these topics will cause a lot of left-leaning people to mental shut down and block you out.
Now, in order to understand the Libertarian state of mind, one must first come to a conclusion about freedom, free markets, and government. Libertarians understand that economies similar to nature are free-flowing, sometimes the sun is shining other times there’s rain, snow storms, tornados, typhoons. Libertarians know that unexpected and unforseen things happen, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the government should step in a regulate the weather. Left-Leaning thinkers do not view the world this way, a lot of left-leaning people believe in exceptions to a rule, and adding layers to an exception to prevent that exception from ever happening again.
This is again is why Ron Paul never joined the Libertarian Party of American, because there’s no such thing as a perfect Libertarian, the reality is that humanity has to be accepting that there are a lot of things that government simply can not and should not do and once you’re a Libertarian you can identify what the government shouldn’t be doing instinctively. Because Libertarians have a habit of looking into the future, understanding how certain cultures are formed and anticipating the creation of Lobbyist groups. Left-Leaning people can’t envision these things, because most Left-Leaning people believe in quick fixes and give little to no credence to the costs of asking the government to solve complex problems.
In my opinion, The Libertarian Party of Canada should remain and the People’s Party of Canada should be allowed to form into what it’s going to be. I would much rather see 3 conservative voices on the debate stage instead of 2. Often during live televised political debates, what Canadians see ar The Greens, The NDP, The Liberals, and The Progressive Conservatives. Now if I was new to politics and I viewed economics as a boring topic that only the racists pay attention too, my assumption would be that the Greens, The NDP, and The Liberals were the only parties trying to make Canada better and the Progressive Conservatives were trying to maintain the status quo.
Now if there where The Greens, The NDP, The Liberals, The Progressive Conservatives, The Peoples Party of Canada and The Libertarian Party of Canada I’d be inclined to research why the last 2 parties exist in the full first, it will also force the media to explain the differences between The Libertarian Party of Canada and the People’s Party of Canada.
I keep trying to tell my fellow conservatives that it’s the recognition that’s most important if there’s only 1 conservative Party, it’s easy for Leftists Politicians to Label them as racists or homophobic because on the debate stage there will be nobody else there to rebut them or provide a different perspective. In Ontario when Doug Ford was running The NDP and Liberals frequently ganged up on Doug Ford and wasted minutes bashing Ford on issues that had nothing to do with anything. Had Kathlynne Wynne not did such a horrible job as the Premier of Ontario these tactics would have worked.
I don’t think it wise for The People’s Party of Canada and The Libertarian Party of Canada to merge. I think it would be a mistake. Don’t believe in the false notion that splitting the vote is bad, it’s not, people not voting at all is the problem. I will write about this more in future posts.
Interesting times ahead.
