It’s no surprise that Fox News continues to take potshots at liberal-leaning Canada. From the Fox News perspective, Canada is often viewed as an ideological extension of the Democratic Party. That’s why many of us chuckle when Donald Trump jokes that Canada should become the 51st state—a tongue-in-cheek reference that implies Canada could retain the illusion of self-governance while surrendering real influence, such as the right to vote for the U.S. president—much like Puerto Rico’s political reality.

Whenever a Republican secures political power in the U.S., it’s not uncommon to hear left-leaning Americans threaten to move north. This dynamic only reinforces the perception that Canada is a sanctuary for liberal discontent. In this context, Mark Carney’s series of public setbacks only magnify the perception that Canada is losing leverage, especially as he avoids addressing one critical issue: austerity.

Right now, Carney lacks any meaningful economic leverage over Donald Trump, who appears to be engaging in deliberate stall tactics. Trump has repeatedly entered into negotiations with Canada—only to back out at the last minute. But this isn’t randomness or chaos. It’s strategic.

Trump understands the legal and bureaucratic machinery well. By continually finding flaws or red flags in the negotiation process, he can legitimately delay or derail talks all the way through to 2028. This allows him to maintain the appearance of diplomatic engagement without giving Canada any real ground.

It’s also important to remember: Trump is not a traditional conservative—he’s a populist. And his populist policies have already begun influencing the Democratic Party. Despite ideological opposition, Democrats often end up adopting Trump’s economic framework, particularly when it’s pro-union or protectionist in nature. Democrats tend to move slower on economic shifts, but once they embrace something—especially anything involving tariffs or union protections—they rarely undo it.

Need proof? President Joe Biden quietly kept many of Trump’s economic policies intact. You didn’t hear much about it, because Biden didn’t make flashy speeches about tariffs or trade restrictions. He simply let them stand—much to the approval of major labor unions. That silence is telling.

So what’s the warning here? If Canada doesn’t begin implementing serious austerity measures, we may be staring down an economic cliff. America, no matter who’s in office, is increasingly less willing to accommodate Canada’s fiscal model or climate-centric economic ideology. Without reform, Canada’s international bargaining position will continue to erode.

Meanwhile, Trump’s tactics are working—Canada is being painted as desperate in the eyes of U.S. media, while America appears disciplined, assertive, and focused on domestic strength. The contrast couldn’t be more striking.

Consider making Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior today.
