Premier Doug Ford opposes ban on handgun sales in Toronto – August 9, 2018

The problem with authoritative big government solutions to problems is their leftover residue and their effects on how people view the world. There are a few topics in Canada that for the most part are off topic for a large segment of the Canadian population. 1 is Gun control and the other is Universal health care. The conservative party of Canada changed their names to the Progressive Conservative party of Canada primarily because a vast number of them don’t have the courage to stand up for what they believe in.

In America as an example, you’ve heard it, the Conservatives/Republicans fight like hell to keep the federal government from taking their rights to bear arms away. They equally fight to make sure universal health care is never an acceptable reality in the United States. Why do they do this you ask? Because it requires more bureaucracy. In Switzerland, as an example, continuous referendums are held to monitor law changes and any social programs implemented to assure any social programs implemented are managed efficiently. The Conservative right in the United States would rather the government stay out of most of these issues and allow the free market to take charge of the economy.

In Canada, it’s odd for leftists alike to imagine a politician from the Left or the Right fighting to protect gun owners. Here’s what Ontario Premier Doug Ford said

“I wouldn’t support a ban on handguns,” Ford said Thursday. “There’s a lot of legal, responsible handgun owners.”

“We have to refocus all our resources going after the bad guys, not the good guys.”

Doug Ford went on to say :

“You look at Chicago — you all know that I spend a ton of time in Chicago — and they have a ban and guess what, last week they had 72 shootings, 72 or 76 shootings. Imagine that.”

In my opinion, Doug Ford is right, Crooks and delinquents aren’t going to stop getting guns just because the government told them it’s against the law. Criminal minds work differently, a lawbreaker is going to break the law no matter what you do. So why would you disarm the general public? Well, the Leftist argument to this is that this is why we hire police to handle the bad guys and citizens should cower in the face of delinquency and wait for the police or some type of government authority to show up.

The leftist, in theory, has a point in making this assumption and it’s only until this ban on guns law is put into practice that people realize how inefficient this big government solution to handling this situation is. In Chicago, law-abiding citizens have to wait until the cops show up after a shooting.

Now if you know anything about the Chicago police force they’re slow to arrive at these shootings sometimes not even arriving at all unless someone is found dead or severely wounded. This isn’t because the Chicago Police are cowards, but there are limits on what they can or can not do, furthermore if there are shootings multiple times a day and then when the cops show up the people are all uncooperative then what? That’s taxpayer money gone down the drain and because of the regulatory environment it makes the ability for an individual law-abiding citizen more difficult to purchase their own firearm to protect themselves.

In time this leads to a city going bankrupt which is more and more becoming a reality in Chicago and man other U.S States with excessive gun control laws. But of course, the truth is in the details and being that Leftist prefer consolidation of over free will, they often feel like once a law has been passed that it somehow validifies their ability not to revisit an old law or regulation that maybe the sole culprit of a deteriorating civilization.

Doug Ford has been impressive so far, I’m not a fan of his stance on NAFTA and tariffs, but regarding some of the other topics, I agree with him. I hate that most Canadians are being treated like children because of the actions of a few. Most Canadians would rather not have a gun and that’s fine but all Canadians should have the right to have guns and also protect themselves. The mere fact that we’re treated like children because of the minority of delinquents is very irritating to me.

Interesting times ahead.
