Ontario public school system make their case for a School voucher system, Is Canadian School choice a viable option? February 21, 2020
The architect of prolonging the Great Depression is the 32nd U.S. DEMOCRAT President Franklin D. Roosevelt who deemed it wise for the Government to intervene in the economy. Similar to the current Bernie Sanders platform, the Roosevelt Administration create what it called the First New Deal, which didn’t work, then the Roosevelt created the Second New Deal and it still didn’t work, why? Because the government was intervening in the economy and the market had to recalculate prices, based on the new regulatory environment created by the Roosevelt Administration.
Now, back in this era, even Franklin D. Roosevelt thought it a bad idea for the public sector to have its own union because after all, a Labor union is a special interest group and special interest groups lookout for the best interests of its clients. tax dollars finance the government, and if there’s a special interest group that looks out for the delivery of how those public tax dollars are spent, well there appears to be a conflict of interest because citizens of a free nation who don’t pay taxes go to jail, yet if the unionized public sector spends the money it gets via taxes irresponsibly they(the public sector, the public servants) don’t have to worry about any prison time.
When it comes to teachers’ unions, their money and their benefits are important than their clients’ needs and client demands. The teachers use the children and the parents of children as pawns so they can spend recklessly.
Now, as a parent, your hands are tied, because going against a public school teacher or a public school system, could be negative for your GROWING child. Plus most parents can’t afford to send their children to private schools, so the thought of there being no school for their children to go too equates to a parent assuming that without the public schools they will be forced to take care of their children 24/7/365. So a lot of parents knowing the greed of the teachers’ unions will capitulate when the reality is they won’t have to if more parents understood how a school voucher system would work.
A properly constructed voucher system doesn’t take away Public Schools, what a voucher school system does is it makes education more competitive. If you listen to the teachers who are striking what they’ll say is
“It is clear to all four Ontario education unions and our members that the Ford government and Education Minister Lecce care nothing about students or educators and everything about taking money out of the publicly funded education system,” AEFO president Rémi Sabourin said in a statement at the time.
Every Time Ontario Public Schools get more money from the Government, the teachers give themselves a Pay-Raise
If you’re running a business and this is one of the reasons GM has been shrinking in size in Ontario, the COST OF DOING BUSINESS is way more important than the money you make. If you make $100 in sales a day it shouldn’t cost you $200 a day to run your business. If that’s your business model you will go bankrupt. Well, because Ontario’s public school teachers don’t run a business, they assume the money they receive is and should be infinite, Ontario’s school teachers via heir union don’t feel the need to be held responsible for their overspending
What’s been happening in Ontario’s school system is the teachers continuously give themselves a pay-raise and when they give themselves a raise they don’t see the correlation between their funded and unfunded liabilities and the decimation of our public school system. If a teacher for 10 months of work makes more than most Ontarians make in a year, why would they assume there would be money for things like air conditioning or renovations in the Public Schools?
The people who have to fix the schools also have to paid too, Now, think of this for a moment, The Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) which is the professional body representing teachers in Ontario’s publicly funded schools has over 160,000 members! Some basic math I want you to consider
160,000 (OTF Members) x $86,000(the average salary of Ontario Public School teachers = $1,376,000,000
that’s 1.3 Billion dollars just to py the teacher salaries, we live in Canada, schools need be heated, groundskeepers need to be paid, books need to be bought, computers and other things need to be purchased, shipping, landscaping, anything that typically needs to be considered when running a business needs to be considered when operating a school and already the Ontario taxpayer is out $1.3 Billion dollars!
Now, the reality is, the voucher school system would make Ontario schools more financially responsible because there would be consequences to the actions of OTF Members. The Ontario Public School System is the only option available for people who can’t afford to send their kids to Private Schools. Now, in a voucher school system, the government gives the parents the option to send their children to whichever school the parents want too.
Now, the fear of the Ontario Public School board is that better teachers will take OTF teachers jobs away, which will lead to a collapse in the public School board, but this really isn’t true, what will happen is that the Public School teachers will have to prove their worth and this is something most people who are part of a Union don’t want to do, because then they’ have to do what people in the Private Sector do, which is competing for your business.
Who We Are
The Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) represents the approximately 160,000 teachers in Ontario’s publicly funded schools.
| OTF WebsiteIt is the unifying voice safeguarding their profession, pensions and public education.
This is a mandate that OTF has met for 75 years.
Clearly what Doug Ford is doing is the right thing to do, I’m just not sure if the public will understand it. That’s always the problem with Austerity measures, people think government/ public sector workers are anointed by the Gods. I personally don’t like to go to any government office, anything run by the government is usually inefficiently run. But if you’re a recipient of Government perks, you’ll look at things differently, if you’re reliant on the government for a check or if you feel like the public school system is the only option for you to educate your kids, you’ll, of course, take the side of the Teachers Unions.
This is why I can’t vote for the Conservative Party of Canada anymore, I highly doubt, that most Ontarians even know what a voucher system is, Rob Ford hasn’t exactly explained how his voucher school system will help the poor, whereas the Teachers unions platform is quite clear about their message. If you’re getting into politics, you have to go on the attack and stay on the attack and constantly remind people what your plan is, because if you don’t the Ontario teachers union will articulate their version of your cuts to education for you!
There’s a lesson Conservatives and people on the Right need to learn about Donald Trump and that lesson is repetition. If you only articulate your vision once, people will forget it, you have to hammer your ideas until people remember them like slogans. Doug Ford has not been a good brand ambassador to his brand of school choice. I personally have no idea, what Doug Ford’s voucher system looks like. Now, the Teachers Unions are stealing the headlines! Donald Trump as an example refuses to allow the Leftist media to steal the narrative, if the Teachers unions have an opinion on education that’s fine, but what Doug Ford needs to do is make sure his brand of education is properly articulated and understood by Ontarians! That’s my opinion!
Interesting times ahead!
