The Reason Canada’s First net-zero energy home sits empty in Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Canada – February 6, 2020,
I wish the hardworking people at MCL Construction Ltd nothing but the best, but I’d be lying if I said that I understood what their vision of net-zero energy means. Because in my world if you require a Government subsidy in order for your home to be considered “Net Zero” then you’re kind of missing the point. For Right-Wingers like myself, our vision for Net Zero energy is more like the Thomas Massie ideal. This is attainable if politicians would stop over-regulating everything in Canada and creating unnecessary tax redistribution schemes, so the real people who actually care about the environment could focus on energy storage. If you want to know what Net Zero means to people like myself consider watching the Youtube video below.
After reading the CBC post which you can read at the bottom of this page, the following quickly came to my attention
44 solar panels and a backup rechargeable battery system.
On a sub-zero February afternoon, it’s sending excess electricity back onto the provincial grid in exchange for NB Power credits to be used on the coldest days, or at night when the solar system is asleep.

Now, for the average person, they probably have no idea what that means, I know what it means because I actually care about constructing a realistic energy economy, that doesn’t help to finance Climate Change elitist billionaires and line the pockets of dirty Left-Wing politicians who use the ignorance to make people believe that their Green when in reality they’re not. Recycling in Canada isn’t what the government makes it appear to be, and the same is true with these “NB Power credits”.
First off a solar system doesn’t sleep, secondly, these NB Power credits are being financed by New Brunswick taxpayers who if they weren’t being ripped off could have used that money to insulate their own homes or eventually purchase their own solar system.
It’s not even like this NB Power credits is going to some public find that will help all the homeowners in New Brunswick to have their own solar panels, no, none of this is happening, what’s happening with these NB Power credits is they’re going to the Government to do with the money what they will and the eventual homebuyer of this beautiful Quispamsis, New Brunswick, how will get discounts or potentially even make an income out of her/his government-taxpayer-subsidized house.
Now, let me make it clear that I don’t fault MCL Construction Ltd for trying to get free publicity or trying to go green and make a profit, but for me all of this ties into the fact that this house is located in Quispamsis, New Brunswick which has a population of 18,245. Ok, I’ll be generous let’s imagine Justin Trudeau gave them like 20,000 refugees, so ok now Quispamsis, New Brunswick has 40,000 people.
Typically in smaller towns, the cost of living is either lower of it the cost of living is high via geography or Public Sector employees having inflated paychecks, I don’t see how a house with a population of 40,000 people sells for almost $500,000 before Government taxes? Location does play a role in housing prices and being that this Quispamsis, New Brunswick home is obviously going to be under some form of Government monitoring via their NB Power credits financial registration scheme if you’re not going to live in that house full time, it’s not house you want to buy, at least I wouldn’t buy it.
Yes, I get that it’s near Saint John, NB but even Saint John only has 70,000 people. That house was built for someone to live in and I mean let’s be honest, in life, there is something called trade-offs if I’m going to sign a death pledge in the form of a mortgage I have to know I’m going to be happy.
The mere fact that New Brunswick has this NB Power credits, kind of tells me that they don’t have a flourishing Private Sector. So, for me looking at it for it is, this house would appeal more to an affluent couple, more than likely in the ‘Tech Sector’ the Techies in Toronto where I live tend to live downtown Toronto and they hate to drive, they’ rather Uber or walk, so I can’t see them buying that suburban home.
Now if you’re talking about men working in the trades or even Engineers, these men, especially tradesmen of means, they tend to want a house they can fix or build themselves, men in the trades like to tear stuff down and rebuild it, so in that regard, a house like that wouldn’t really suit them either.
Women with money, I could see a woman with money potentially liking that house, but I find most single women, women with money especially in small towns if not married aren’t going to move to Quispamsis, New Brunswick unless they’re making a lot of money and even then a woman who is making a lot of money, is usually going to be good with money, frugal even. So, I’m not entirely sure what demographic that house was targeted towards at that price point? more about the house below.
Real estate investors, might want the house but that price is kind of high which is why the article below is written like a complaint. I think people in Canada forget that it’s via government policies as to why home prices in Canada are so high, to begin with. The Canadian Home Builders Association and the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) should be happy the Liberals have done so much catering to their lobby groups.
If free-market capitalism ran Canada and the Canadian dollar was able to appreciate and the Bank of Canada interest rates were reflective of the retail lending market in Canada instead and not the other way around, then that house would be lucky to sell for $150K.
Canada is so far from economic liberty! What an interesting biased article, the article below reads like Propaganda, it’s only because I know my fellow countrymen are brainwashed as to why when I read it, I accept it as common Canadian ignorance!
