Trump-style politics the new normal in Alberta Review – The Arrogance of a University of Lethbridge professor! – January 25, 2020,
There’s a refreshing fear coming back to the Democrat Party in the United States, the very real possibility that Bernie Sanders might become the Leader of the Democrat Party in 2020 is starting to scare the crap out of traditional Democrats who aren’t Socialists, but who are in many ways similar to the modern-day Conservative Party of Canada.
Many Canadians are familiar with the Classical Liberals, prior to Pierre Trudeau, who was a pretty good lawyer, Liberals used to have to debate with facts. Pierre Trudeau was an artist at debating while the lights were brightest, you can watch some of his old interview in which he uses linguistic wizardry to weasel his way out of answering economic-related questions. Although I was not a fan of Pierre Trudeau’s I’ll give him credit where it’s due, he performed well under the lights.
The classical Liberals were the Jordan Petterson types or even the JFK types, if you dropped JFK into the year 2020 he’d be considered far-right. However, if you attended any College or University when I was growing up, chances are you met a professor that was something like a Jordan Petterson, a Classical Liberal in the sense that you’d assume after talking or listening to them that their beliefs we’re Agnostic. Often times you’d have to ask a professor a direct question to know his/her personal beliefs.
As an example when I was growing up and I communicated with Great Canadian Professors in Ontario I found it difficult to know if that teacher was an Athiest or a Creationist, why? Because they had the ability to argue on behalf of both sides of the debate. This was true of the male and female teachers, the great teachers of old, would cloud their personal opinions and beliefs in riddles in order to force their students to think for themselves, these teachers understood the importance of independent thought and would often allow their students to learn particular social lessons the hard way.
I grew up in this era and that’s why for me it’s painful to read articles from Leftists Professors in Canada’s Colleges and Universities. I can only imagine what’s happening to the minds of youth who assume there’s only one way to view the world an that view should come from thought leaders. In the article, you can read for yourself below, University of Lethbridge professor, Trevor W. Harrison tries to frame Donald Trump from a Leftist lens, I don’t even think he realizes how biased he sounds.
With the exception of Trump’s approval of killing the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, everything Trevor W. Harrison says could be applied to Justin Trudeau. Has Trudeau not raised himself up as the people’s savior? The U.S has Congress, but has Trudeau not passed laws and used taxpayer money in a similar dictator-like fashion? From a Right Wing perspective, Trudeau in many ways has been more of a dictator than Trump has.
Trudeau in a time of apparent prosperity has put Canadians more debt than at any point in Canadian history? Trudeau has been Pro-Public-Sector and anti-private sector.
If a person is Pro-Public-Sector and is for using private sector funds to grow the public sector how is that any different from those of us who think it’s better to take the opposite approach to governance, after all at least in the private sector we’re not forcing people to buy our products.
In the public sector, public sector supporters believe they’re not only entitled to other people’s money, but public sector workers even have public-sector unions whose entire existence revolves around using the levers of government to get their clients more taxpayer dollars.
Now, even in University of Lethbridge professor, Trevor W. Harrison article that you can read below the acknowledges that Alberta Premier is basically trying to shrink the size of government, but at the same time and I don’t think University of Lethbridge professor, Trevor W. Harrison even recognizes his attitude of entitlement. Perpetual taxes in Canada began in 1916 and I believe the tax was called the WarTax Act oddly enough.
Taxation is theft and the fact that Canada has reached an era in which Unionized public servants have basically embraced Leftism so much that they can’t see Populism for what it is, is a sign to me that a large portion of people who believe in Liberalism have possibly been disillusioned into becoming full-blown Communists. The Fascists and the Communist burn books, and don’t want you to consider new ideas in fear they might lose the narrative and lose power, Classical Liberals, on the other hand, don’t burn books, they debate you and allow their opposition to freely express their beliefs, because how else can you debunk ideas and concepts?
Also, sometimes old philosophies have to be revisited, the histories of things sometimes need more input from a range of different perspectives in a spirit of prosperous harmony. Because in order to PROGRESS it’s never wise to strip individuals of their Right to exist! Populism is a reflection of something Politicians have been getting wrong about the people in which they’re governing. It’s called Populism for a reason, it became popular because it’s a thought that’s shared by a large number of people because most FREE people don’t like to be talked down too.
If you’re going to talk down to people, you have to be opened to criticism, in the free market of ideas, the inflexible person or entity tends to go bankrupt. No, Socialism and communism isn’t the be-all-end-all, innovation tends not to happen in an atmosphere in which thought crimes are criminalized. If observing at the world from a particular perspective is banned, well then Leftists have become the Creationists. The Classical Liberals were the ones who progressed us out of the religious rule, but their end goal wasn’t to put us under a man-made Communist-Globalist rule. People don’t want to trade oppressors we seek to be free.
Similarities between Trump and Trudeau
Trudeau similar to Donald Trump in the United States lost the Popular vote and this could be attributed to the electoral college in the United States and Canada’s “first past the post” system in which independent commissions get to decide electoral districts, which presently favor portions of Canada, with the largest populations. This system of democracy in Canada currently alienates Western Canada from having any say in who becomes Canada’s Prime minister.
So although University of Lethbridge professor, Trevor W. Harrison appears to be a Leftist in Western Canada, the reality appears to be that most Albertans who actually have to do jobs that people like Trevor W. Harrison opt not to do for a living aren’t allowed to voice their world view becomes the Authoratian Trevor W. Harrison and Justin Trudeau types appear to know what’s best for everyone. Here lies the flaw in Democracy.
What many Leftists are losing sight of is their sense of individuality, they’re collectivizing arguments as if their opposition doesn’t exist. Talking over your children is a terrible way to teach and raise kids and this is why I’m disappointed to learn that Trevor W. Harrison is a professor at a respectable University. Read the article below for yourself and feel free to come to the conclusion that resonates with you.
Interesting times ahead!
