Why don’t women like Doug Ford? – June 2, 2018
In her article titled Why women don’t like The Dougster by Heather Mallick, she dives into what I consider to be biased oddities of why she believes women don’t like Doug Ford. She generalizes her argument and she’s very specific about the stats that she points out. Personally, I don’t have a problem with media people being biased, what I have a problem with is it not being a 2-way street. So there’s a statement made by that I want to point out.
In her article which can be read here:
https://www.thestar.com/opinion/star-columnists/2018/06/01/why-women-dont-like-the-dougster.html Heather Mallick brings up the CBC poll that can be found here:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/vote-compass-men-women-trust-leaders-1.4683933
When you get to the bottom of her article it’s clear as day that Heather Mallick is a supporter of Andrea Horwath, she takes subtle shots at Kathleen Wynne and then finishes her article stating the following:
And then there’s Howarth, who sounds like an actual New Democrat. I appreciate the honesty. She won’t legislate any strikers back to work. Good. If the York University strike were to be ended, it would just delay the basic problem of gig work built into university budgets. We’re all precarious now.
York will offer “provisional grades” — they are invented — so that students can fake-graduate and come back later. It’s not a good look. It degrades the reputation of York and every one of its graduates.
Precarious work has to be challenged and perhaps strikes will force the issue. Howarth’s ahead of these appalling changes to the way we work and is the best choice to help repair them.
But Ford is an unknown known. We know how he’ll operate, same as he always has, but as with Trump, we don’t know how or where he’ll do the damage. Anything can happen.
Clearly, after reading the above, you can see the bases and bias of her article, the writers’ goal is obvious here and nowhere does it say this article is “sponsored” or “brought to you by” the supporters of Andrea Horwath of the NDP.
Now if Heather Mallick, wrote this on her own blog I’d say all power to her, but this bias in Canadian media has to stop. It shouldn’t be this overt, this obvious in reality, that article is an advertisement for the NDP. Where’s the counter-argument to university budgets?
I can give York University a counter argument about how most of the course being offered in this prestigious university is not preparing Canadian students for the real world.
- How about the University is squandering the money that they already get?
- How, about the teachers take a pay cut for students they care so much about in the name of assuring Canadian students have a brighter future?
- How about teachers not go on strike and solicit Canadians for donations?
- Why should the government via the taxpayer be forced to pay teachers higher wages while those of us in the private sector have stagnant wages or earnings? If the goal is to make the outcome of individuals equal, those of us outside the public sector should be given the same wage and earnings privileges as those in the public sector
These bias articles need to stop, Canadians are supposed to be able to engage in debate, these hit pieces are not necessary, hit pieces should be reserved to independent bloggers on their own blog(s) or website(s). The mainstream news media shouldn’t be dumbing down the public it serves. It should be opening the floodgates of debate and discussion so people can formulate their own decisions based on the carefully formulated evidence provided to them.
Interesting times ahead.
