It’s the right thing to do: Edmonton airport to lay off up to 40 per cent of workers as traffic drops 95 per cent – May 21, 2020,
Now, I must first of all say, that I’ve never been a huge fan of Swedens economy, however, Sweden which has a giant Welfare State, similar to Canada, comprehends that Socialism isn’t free. In Europe, in those Scandanavian countries, Bernie Sanders is so fond of, there’s an understanding that if the people want Universal Government Services, their free market has to be left alone to its job.
As many people know, during this COVID-19 pandemic, Sweden left it’s economy open, why? Because Sweden is highly reliant on Regressive taxes, they pay for their socialism primarily by their regressive taxation system, which requires their consumers to keep spending money! Sounds cruel some may argue? What’s cruel is being forced to pay the government an inflated price via taxation for government services that you as an individual may never use!
The last thing any Government should seek to do is pay Socialism bills with depreciated currency, I bring up Sweden because despite what many people might think, Sweden does not use the Euro, Sweden uses the Krona and Sweden similar to the direction I imagine Canada is going, has devalued its currency to boost consumer spending, because one of the major problems with Socialism and Communism is that it slows down consumer spending because the prices for goods and services are more expensive than they need to be.
All that aside, during economic downturns businesses and governments need space to breathe or need space to deflate and this is what I often find happens in Alberta more than anywhere else in Canada. The business and Conservative leadership in Alberta seems to comprehend something other parts of Canada fail to know, which is to trust the socialist measures you already have in place, like unemployment insurance.
All of these services for people who lost their jobs get tested during these times, let’s see if they work? although Donald Trump has been printing more money than Justin Trudeau has, the difference between the Trump administration and Justin Trudeau’s cabinet, is that Trudeau, doesn’t seem to comprehend that it’s the COST OF DOING business in Canada that’s the problem. Donald Trump recently made an executive order to cut regulations!
In the fiat money system, yes you can print money, but if you don’t cut costs, you’re asking for economic problems down the road. If I make $1000 per month but it costs me $1500 per month to make that $1000 every month, I’m losing -$500 every single month and there’s no way to get around it. What’s worse is that when I as the leader am being financially irresponsible and the company on the surface looks healthy, you can’t blame the people working for the company or country, for assuming everything is okay when it’s really not!
I personally prefer the money that’s doled out to welfare be redistributed to the people who actually work and pay taxes in the country during this pandemic. Wage-earners are responsible for all the welfare perks all the people living off the Government received prior.
During periods like this, if I were leader, wage earners would get precedence, and Welfare recipients would have to be more reliant on donations, especially being that a lot of people on Welfare live in subsidized housing! While wage earners often have to pay a government-imposed inflated rent payment. CMHC, The BoC, and Rent controls do raise the cost of living in Canada. CMHC, and the Bank of Canada both work in coordination to prevent DEFLATIONARY mortgage prices, this is a blatant attack on renters and wage earners, who don’t own property and now have to pay an inflated price to rent or lease from the individuals and entities being protected by the CMHC and the BoC.
I think what the Edmonton Airport did was the right thing based on the current circumstances! I think there needs to be a lot of cuts to the size of government!
Interesting times ahead!
